Connecting a Pixel to a PC

August 2020

Note: When you plug in a Pixel phone into a PC running Windows 10,
you would think that when the explorer window opens you will see the files
on the phone. NOT.  Remember you are not on a MAC.
You may search google, bing, Duck Duck Go or Startpage for help.
You may even find this link and think you need to download some type of driver.
This is usually when you wish your 12 year old MAC had not died!
Here is the deal. Once plugged in, the USB setting on a Pixel, or any other
phone running andriod os, for some strange reason, is default set to not transfer files.
You will need to do a search for USB select preferences and change
it to allow file transfers. Good luck doing a local backup of your Pixel
and not using google's online drive.
Remember you are not on a MAC.

HEIC Files on PCs

April 2020

So you've just taking this gorgeous photo on your new iPhone and you're sending the picture to your friend that is running Windows 10 on their pc. They click it and it gives them an vague error message stating Photos can not open this file. Click here to download A Microsoft Fix. They click that it, launch it install it or whatever and it still will not open the HEIC file. Great Microsoft. You check the reviews and the reviews saw this patch sucks.
Here is a work around.

Not That Corona!!!

March 2020

The safety and health of our Arkietechs is of top priority and we are actively following information regarding COVID-19, known as the Coronavirus.  As you know, information made known to the public about the situation continues to develop.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends taking some actions to help prevent the circulation of respiratory viruses:

•    Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.  If soap and water not available, use an alcohol-based sanitizer.
•    Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
•    Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
•    Stay home when sick.
•    Cover coughs or sneezes with a tissue, then throw tissue in the trash. Wash hands and sanitize.
•    Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Arkietechs may monitor the CDC website for updates - https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/

Arkietechs should also be aware of the following safety precautions:

•    Cleaning products, tissues, soap, etc. are accessible to employees for use in the workplace.  We understand that the types products on site may vary.
•    Take time during the day to wash hands and clean your work area surfaces.
•    Do not report to work if you are sick.
•    IF appropriate and practical given individual situations, short term requests for working remotely may be approved by management.

Type something in the note or highlight and delete some of the text already in the note. Shake the iPhone three or four times. The "Undo Typing" button appears. Tap the "Undo Typing" button.

Using a Master Password with Browsers

August 4, 2019

When you are working on a computer used by multiple people, set up a Master Password on your browser to enhance your privacy.  Your Password Manager automatically fills in the username and password needed to access web sites and log into mail servers. If you don't close your browser when you get up from the computer and someone sits down there for a few seconds, they can access your sites and see your passwords. Therefore, setting a Master Password will prompt anyone browsing with your profile to enter in the correct password.
